In today’s age, technology has flooded our lives with content. Caught in the mire are today’s musicians who champion an artform that’s more widely distributed than any other throughout human history. And we, more often than not, overlook the music created by unfamiliar faces because it’s challenging. We’d rather have an easy listen, a known quantity to skim through while we think about something else.
Hearing is easy, but listening is difficult. Welcome to “Why We Like It”, where we rebuke the trends in favor of thoughtful analysis and underknown sounds.
BLUE LAB BEATS: “HI THERE”
Listen On:
How We Found It:
We first came across UK duo BLUE LAB BEATS and their track “HI THERE” when they submitted to our portal at SubmitHub last week. It is their first release since their debut album Xover which topped the UK jazz charts and is the first taste of their forthcoming Vibe Central EP. If you like Thundercat, KAYTRANADA, or Tom Misch, you’ll want to check them out.
Why We Like It:
The duo behind BLUE LAB BEATS, NK-OK and Mr. DM, fill each other’s strengths. The imaginative production by NK-OK provides a rich musical background to Mr. DM’s soulful instrumental sermons that seem so effortless despite their intricacy. Together, they create a soundscape that is physically impossible to listen to without moving. How you move is up to you: whether you bounce, slide, snap, or nod – but moving is mandatory. These guys are serious musicians who intimately understand balance, rhythm, and melody. There’s a reason that this song is the first fully instrumental track we’ve showcased on CentralSauce.
From the Artist:
Production-wise, our creative chemistry as a duo is great for me as I have someone to bounce ideas off. Mr DM just knows what I mean and plays whats needed really quickly, the process has gotten even quicker the longer we have known each other. Loads of artists say they are so shocked when they see us at work in the studio – they think we are actually psychic! The same applies for our live performances too. I can give Mr DM a look, say something quickly and he responds straight away. Its fun challenging ourselves and we are always learning!” – NK-OK
